Restore Smiles with Tooth Colored Fillings

Two women laughing with beautiful smilesA tooth colored, white, or composite filling can be used to repair a decayed, cracked, fractured, or otherwise structurally damaged tooth. It is a wonderful alternative to silver, or amalgam, fillings. Dr. Morris Budak or Dr. Michael Piccione will remove the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth, then fill the area with the composite resin.

Composite fillings are tooth colored and even come with a precise color matching guide to ensure that they blend beautifully with your surrounding tooth enamel. We especially appreciate their applications for teeth in the front of the smile that would be especially affected by a silver or amalgam filling.

Composite resin fillings are very durable and can last for many years — as long as their silver counterparts.

Tooth-colored fillings can perform a variety of functions, including…

  • Repairing chipped teeth
  • Closing slight gaps
  • Fixing cracked, broken teeth
  • Restoring decayed teeth
  • Strengthening weak or worn teeth

How We Place Composite Fillings

Composite fillings are generally completed in just one visit to our Sunnyvale office. Local anesthesia is available for your comfort throughout the procedure. When the tooth is numb, we will remove all of the decayed or damaged enamel. After the space has been thoroughly cleaned and prepared, we will place the new filling. Decay that is near the nerve of the tooth will require a special soothing medicine for added protection against discomfort. Then, the composite resin will be placed on the dry enamel, shaped, and polished. After the process is complete, the tooth will have its original shape and beauty once again.

Right after you receive your composite filling, you may experience slight sensitivity to heat and cold. Any related discomfort should subside within a few days, as your tooth adjusts to its new restoration.  If you’d like to know more about this treatment, be sure to contact our office today.
